What to Expect

It is difficult and sometimes unnerving to walk into a church as a visitor for the very first time. Here are some things to expect when you visit First Baptist Church of Westfield.

Expect to hear a message from the Bible. At First Baptist Church of Westfield, we believe that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God and is therefore worthy of our time and effort to understand it. The Bible speaks to all parts of life and we would be wise to apply it to our everyday situations.

Expect to be challenged. Jesus didn’t die to pay for our sins only. He also died to give us new life. We believe that when you trust in Jesus for salvation from your sins, your life is transformed and you cannot live like you used to. This means that all of us need help as we put off our old selves and put on our new selves.

Expect to sing songs of worship to God. We want to help each person in our congregation to worship God from the heart. As a multi-generational church, this means that a typical service will include hymns and contemporary praise songs.

Expect to meet people who are imperfect. As much as we want to love you like Jesus does, we will fail at some point or another. Understand that we are just like you. We are sinners daily in need of God’s grace.

Don’t expect a dress code. If you want to wear a t-shirt and jeans then feel free to do so. If you want to wear a bow tie and cummerbund then feel free. We don’t really care.
